It is possible that it was originally a foyer or library table and then the central base was removed and converted into a coffee table. 
The legs appear to be hand carved with brass castors

I believe it’s mahogany wood

 I primarily got this for the round table as it is solid wood

To repurpose it I thought to use a tulip dining base to get that modern and antique combo
